Tomorrow I will be installing about 150 feet of aluminum soffit. Does anyone have a preferred method for installing F-channel on an unfinished concrete wall?
Should I worry about corrosion if I install the factory-finished aluminum directly against the concrete? I was thinking a strip of felt between the two.
The flange on the F-channel- is there a preferred fastener for concrete? I was originally thinking of running some 2x as a nailer strip for the channel but couldn’t see it working with the F-channel.
I’ve done some searching, found nothing that suits me, I’m hoping someone here knows what’s best.

Does anyone remember which issue had the reader tip about building a jig to cut soffitt with a circular saw?
I dont remember the issue.
But I do have a jig for soffit.
I am no artist but will try to sketch it with the cheap paint program and get it to you.
I can't draw it, email me for phone number and I will describe it to you.

Mike, for aluminum soffit products I normally don't open the box and just mark my cuts on the outside of the cardboard. I guess you could say that the box is my jig.
This "system" works perfectly on aluminum products. It works fairly good on most vinyl products too, but sometimes you'll have some chip out if the blade wanders. I don't use and special blade though...usually whatever is in my saw. If I get an unusual amount of chipping, I put a new Marathon in.

dont know about harden concrete but fresh wet concrete and aluminimum will make a chemical reaction. Thats why all concrete tools are magnesiumn
I cut sofit with a slide miter saw.
don't have a slider, but it's on my christmas list

i use 1/4 drive pin anchors in concrete. they have plastic oround the pin, so i don't think they corrode the aluminum.Friends help you move.

That is what I use. Felt would be a good idea behind "F" if concrete is fresh.Friends help you move.

I'd think the choice of fastener would be a problem. Any sort of fastener that's hard enough for the concrete will corrode the aluminum.
Might be worth half a second considering some sort adhesive mounting. Probably nothing available that's reasonable in terms of adhesion, price, and ease of installation, but worth a thought.
Aluminum is not supposed to be installed in contact with concrete or other cementous materials. It will corrode badly.
someone else was saying it's just fresh concrete. Is it which one, or both?
Would you say stucco and aluminum don't mix? The stuccoer wants to stucco after the receiving channel is up. Come to think of it, that's exactly how most that I've seen look like they were done.
I wound up getting j-channel and put up a 2x2 nailer on the block for that. The only thing is the backside of the channel is touching the concrete. But then the stucco is going up on the bottom of the channel anyway.

If it is stucco, or drivit.
I put a 2x tapconned to the conctrete about 1/8 shy of stucco face, have them tape the F channel when they stucco. After they are done put in your soffit and fascia.
I didn't notice a mention of stucco before, or I would of said thas sooner.

I'm trying to picture this but can't, what's the stucco face?
I didn't mention the stucco before, I don't think. Anyhow there's no telling when this will get stuccoed, kind of a slow project for the homeowners I'm working for. So my soffit must go up now, or I don't get paid until who knows when.
