an interesting question

glenn_storey | Posted in General Discussion on May 14, 2009 03:42am

i just got a project making some custom screen doors. so, my customer asked what i thought was a good question, and i don’t have an answer. is clear screen available? considering that you can buy clear fishing line, i don’t know why not, but i’ve never seen it, and neither has the guy at the hardware store where i get my screening done.
i can only think of three reasons why not.
1/ the u.v. would kill it.
2/ reflection
3/ birds would fly through it.
so, anybody got an answer?

Mike, you inspired me to look on the shelf for an Andersen sample comparing theirs with usual screen.  I came up empty, but remember (maybe) that it is black/grey like most only it doesn't impact the view through it as much.

Mike, got a sample in JLC a few months ago.

Seems it only comes on their windows, can't buy it is what I was told.

Didn't see any actual screens, just the sample that was in JLC.

It really was much clearer than regular screen, but it was only a couple inches square.

Unless Anderson is making their own screen it ought to be available somewhere eventually?

Joe and Mike.  I looked at the link that was given to Quality Screen and emailed a request for sample.

Just got their reply with notice that it is being sent.

Might want to ask if you are interested, their pricing is on the site.A Great Place for Information, Comraderie, and a Sucker Punch.

Saw  Pella display at HD last weekend., with the same screen in it.

Big differance when you see a normal screen on a window and clear screen on the same window,

Yeah, ot's neat stuff. Looks like that web site is the place to get it too.

Now I read the other day about a screen that will filter pollen out of the air. Wife sez next house gets that stuff at IIRC $7+ sq ft.

Here  is Andersen's answer to the screen dilemma, it really is different, now just try to find rolls of it you can buy.
