I’m installing a house full of Andersen Tilt wash Conversion Kits. The homeowners are elderly. I’m staining the interiors for them, which I swore I’d never do again. Everything is actually going pretty well, for as much as I worry. I called them up to see if I could drop by to show them a stain sample for their approval. They thought it looked great.
While I’m there, they tell me about their recent bathroom remodel by Bathfitters. The contractor taped a drop cloth down across their beautiful 40 year old wood floors. When he removed the tape, it removed the finish across the entire length in the living room. It did the same thing in the hallway. I’m guessing he used duct tape; it was down for one day. While breaking the existing cast iron tub, their sledge hammer ‘bounced’ and broke the toilet…which was staying.
…….and I worry.

Me too. It makes me walk a little slower to give my brain a chance to catch up with all angles (and not break stuff).
But, it's the calls (like tonight) that say "I just called to say you do da*m great work." I thought the retrofit looked a bit off because of layout restrictions to an existing wall. What I see is through different lensesthan the customers'.

Yup there's the problem!!!! Big corp. hiring lowest cost possible subs. So subs try to get things done quickly to make up the differance between per hour and per job.
One of these days Home owners will wake up and see the difference!!!!!
Ok so it's my little dream and I like it :-)
Actually I have had the blue painters tape pull up floor finish also. What a bummer!
wait till that blue tape ruins the wall paper.....Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->
WOW!!! What a Ride!Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
Hey bro, I was 22...new ( to me) house, SYP floors from the 50's..played in a band, we carted in and taped the snake for the sound. I owned the house for a total of 72 hours.
Partayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
3 days later, pulled the tape...and 99.99% of the floor finish.
Therein lies a pawn, in the checkmate of a divorce.
Stories like this are why I also worry about remodellign stuff. I think ther's a line in that oath that new doctors take that says something like: "First, do no harm". I taught Carl to think of that when we're working on something. No sense screwing smoethign up and making more work for yourself.
