Dear Forum:
Some local skateboarders are destroying my a/c units. Therefore, I have decided to build a fence around them. The a/c units are located on a wide strip of sidewalk which slopes down. I would like to use 4x4s to build a simple wooden fence. I got permission from the Borough to attach the fence to the sidewalk, but I cannot do any excavation, build footers, etc.
Are there any post bases available which would allow the posts to be plumbed to the the sloping sidewalk? The only post bases I have ever used attach flat to the top of a concrete pier.
Thanks,
Elliott

I think you could make this work with some trimming of the sides to fit the angled post. Cut the post bottom at the angle to fit on top of the elevated base.
These are from Simpson. They have many more. http://www.strongtie.com/

Any welder should be able to fabricate some brackets for you that you could epoxy/bolt to the sidewalk. It's cheaper than you think, too.
Be sure to leave enough space around the mechanical unit so it can breathe or you will burn it up
