My latest project is ramping up to speed…I am repairing a mish mash of Architectural Details that need un-mish mash ing.
Here is a front entrance that was stripped and found to need a little massaging to ready it for new paint..
So far I have remade a little of teh base moulding, and have turned my gaze and moulding planes to the upper coner. These are odd profiles from 1900 and such short runs makes hunting down the stuff slower than just making it from scratch.
I luckily still had some 2″ Cypress left over from a job a few years back, it planes well, and matches what is there.
Normally, I see capitols like those leaves cast out of plaster, these suckers are carved wood…a few fiddly bits to glue on and recarve to match, but nothing serious (so far). I am trying to use as little filler as possible, so its glue on a block and whittle to match. All then gets resanded and primed and painted. I’ll be doing that part too it looks like.
Soon as I get this done there is another just like it on the other side of the house..
Oh, yeah, they get wrapped with copper on the tops and mid water table element. I’ll get close ups when I get deeper into them.

Thanks, but your stuff blew me away...loved that lead roof. Esp the wood cores.
Its amazing how much work has come in the door since I did those windows. I dont think people realised what can be done with lead. I've had different tradesmen working on that job call me up to complement me on it.
I did that job for a famous Irish traditional musican. The reason I got that job was because he heard I did the castle job.
Neat stuff.
Beer was created so carpenters wouldn't rule the world.
It has held up well, for being in full sun all the time, suprised there wasn't more damage.
Nice! Make it gorgeous - we're watching.

Looks good. Cyprus is a good choice.
Hope you make this an ongoing, real time thread.
Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood
I'll see what I can do, I am im the middle of a major window rebuilding project at the same time...my shop is impassable with all the fiddly bits and glass everywhere.
The way it looks I'll be at this job for quite some time, there is a huge amount of restoration needed, and so far they seem to really be happy I came along and am willingto do it.
It seems to me that it is not that they couldn't find a person who CAN do it, they couldn't find a person WILLING to do it..I dunno what that says about me? LOL..
"I dunno what that says about me? LOL.."
