Sometimes it’s amazing what $55 bucks can buy.
Stopped at the bigbox the other day for something and found myself roaming around the tile area.
Saw a bunch of these outside tile corners marked 5ocents for the pair. hmmm Didn’t get any of those in the great ceramic haul last year so I got to thinkin’ later and decided to head back and buy ’em.
So next day I go in and they had stuck a sign on a cart that said ‘anything on cart $1.00′. Yesterday the 6ft oak floortrim pieces like t molding for joining floor surfaces was marked down from 24.99 to 18 something to 9 something now get’em out of here for $1.
Ok, heh heh.
And this other dollar stuff sure. Bag of sanded grout, box of unsanded, hey that’s a cool tile piece, 6ft aluminum carpet thresholds, ok. oh yeah, the tile joiner ones also. “you want all six?” ‘yeah’
Christmas, right?
While I’m at it I’m getting that $10 American Standard bath sink without a box cause it’s got a cool shape and is a neutral white. Maybe I can make it fit that $200 chrome vanity stand I got there last month for a fiver.
Oh well, it’s a sickness I know it. But when I can do a jazzy rental reno at a decent cost the customers love it.

from one yellow tag guy to another-nice purchases- i was just mentioning about my lowes purchase of a hitachi universal miter saw stand on the mark down table originally 199.00 marked down to 149.00 I offered to purchase it if they marked it down to 50% off I was thinking 100 bucks but they said o.k. and took 50% off the 149.00 so now I have a 74.00 stand that will probably never come out of the box but I sure am proud of the "deal".
Ha! Good one. Funny how it ends up sometimes.

o.k. I will bore you one more time - same store as a matter of fact but a year or so ago they have a 10" makita sliding compound miter saw LS 1013 I think- marked down to 1/2 price- four hundred and some down to around 250 bucks cheap enough I thought - it was new but had been on display- never actually plugged in though. The manuals and tools were attached-having some fun with the salesperson i asked about the box- the expert says "sir we can't find the case it comes with" I said are you sure it comes with a case and he said "oh yes it comes with a plastic carrying case, but I can't find it" So again playing with him I say - so this compound miter saw has a plastic carrying case .... well how much will you reduce it for not having it. Believe it or not those cases must be worth around 100.00 bucks because I buy this saw for 110.00 and they give me a new carbide tipped blade off the shelf (60.00 on the price tag) because the display "can't have the blade attached for safety , it must be in the carrying case"--- Too bad I still do not have a carrying case but pretty good deal I think- true story- my conscience sort of hurt over this one...

Mark the crap down enough and someone will still over-pay for it!

Then the next day I see an article somewhere where someone was inverting the oak T thingys and using them inside shelving to slide the bases of wine glasses into.

First thing I do in Lowes is look at the clearance stuff. Last week I bought a 7" MK Diamond tile saw blade for $5. I have no use for it right now, and maybe it will only last one job, but for that price ...
I have a friend who works there, and he calls me when things are available: last year he had a full unopened roll of nice sheet vinyl that was supposed the have been shipped to HD ... still had the shippping label attached. Wrong bar code, they (Lowes) couldn't sell it. I got the whole roll for $25.
Bought an 18 gal Shop Vac last week. Kinda big, but it sucks the paint off the wall. Built-in drain plug for draining water, big back wheels, etc. $49.
A year ago I bought 2 of the MK tile saws off the display when they put out new samples. Neither one had a water pump, and the electric cords had been cut off. I think I pait $20 each. Added a pump and cord and sold the bigger one (it weighed more than I could handle) for $250. I'm still using the 370 or 770 model, whatever it is.
And I almost aolways get to buy thinset for $5 a bag. I get the ones that are torn, and they put them into a trash bag. It's a little messy, but cheap enough.

No specific story here, I'm just glad to see I'm not the only one who makes a beeline for the clearance table whenever I'm in there.
I usually try to make it a habit to stop in after work every couple of days, (Lowes is right on the way home) just for clearance perusal purposes.
In fact, come to think of it, that's how I wound up going to Lowes last month when I won that big cordless kit . I was just stopping by on my way home just for kicks.
Of course, there was the time I went in specifically to buy a jig saw, and there on the clearance table was the very jig saw I was planning to buy, reg. price $189 on clearance $80 .
Now how often does THAT happen?
I tend to do the same thing with clothing. I can usually go into Kohls department store, and come out with an armload of polo shirts and a several pairs of khaki shorts for less than $50 When you can buy polo style shirts for $5 it really makes you look more professional to a customer than wearing an old t-shirt." If I were a carpenter"
Glad I'm not the only one to stop by box store's just "see what's on clearance"
Yeah, I'm the same way. Whenever I'm in the next town over (closest Lowes there) and have some time to burn I scout for deals. However, I had never tried to talk the price down even more. Will try that next time, seems like they are pretty easy on it.
I've tried it with varying success. All but once I've had them take something extra off when I've asked.
The one time it didn't work It was a Milwaukee router, usually about 160, they had for 130, but no case, no wrench's and missing the 1/2" collet. Manager wouldn't budge on price so I left it.
I picked up a brand new Porter Cable left blade circ saw for $55, and a Delta 12-560 planer new for $100 at a Lowes clearance table. Not as good as the Makita ref'd above though.Made the rounds to try and find the rumored $299 Dewalt 708 12" sliders to no avail.JT
