Another type of valley construction
I had to take a couple of days to reshingle the backside of my insurance agents house.
Left side – single layer stapled on over a perfect felt job.
Right side – overlay prior to his ownership.
Notice the fine detailing of the Cal. cut/ blend method.
We put on archys on the left and put in open valleys

Who'd done that?
Got a pic of the finished?
Rez,
No I didn't take any after shots- it was 90 plus those three days and my azz was draggin.
I used 26 gauge galvanized 2' wide, bent at one foot each way. I use a tapered exposure from 8" at the top to 9" on bottom. I use Grace on the sides- if it's not too hot!!!
I'll have more this week from project for Summer.
Heres one of me on the Houlton Elks Lodge on Tues.
We're getting ready to start that job with the slate roof sometime next week. Very little slate work involved (there's probably not 10 broken ones on the whole house), but lotsa copper work.
What I keep forgetting to ask you is if you've ever used those stainless steel slate hooks. Dale did a repair job with them last week and we both think they're bad to the bone

I've never met a man that was owed as much as he thought he was.
Grant,
I used to use some stainless hooks, but now just copper.
If the sheathing is dingy where you'd like to nail the hook in you can adjust the coppers up or down slightly with your hammer head- but with stainless it's next to impossible. They're like a rock- no give at all.
Got a source for copper?
Evergreen Slate in Vermont has 25 lb. boxes. N.A. Bocker sells by the pound I think.

My understanding is that the cut is not supposed to be right on the centerline - too easy for debris to get trapped.
And you clipped the corners, right?

Bob,
That isn't my workmanship! An old valley where the main house and ell met.
I don't weave- I'm an open metal valley man.
