My experience with them is maybe, when they are warrented. They are a mild pain and I think I would only use em on 5/8th bd. Maybe I've never given them a chance.
*I use them to help with situations where it's difficult or impossible to get a backer in. They are a lifesaver in some situations. I would never replace all my solid backers with them-after all I trim out my own jobs. For energy efficiancy I use 1x for backers so I can run insulation behind the backer.John
*Dan, I've used them on my home and other jobs with success and will liklely use them for quite some time as the only size I could buy them in was a 300 count box! Still have about 150 left!Mike
*We use them on ceilings whenever we have trusses to minimize the effects of truss uplift. We also use them in some corners though you do have to make sure you have necessary nailing for trim, ledgers, etc. I don't know if you save as much wood as the advocates claim but they sure are handy when you need them.
