I’ve seen a few articles (including those in FH) on residential metal frame construction, but never a book that cover the topic comprehensively.
Any leads?
Also, any experience out there with the same? Especially with building code issues and metal/wood hybrid.
Thanks,
-Michael

I was looking for a "Steel Frame Construction for Dummies", but all I found was "Residential Steel Framing Handbook" by Robert Scharff. I don't remember what I paid, but http://www.amazon.com lists this little hardback tome for $49.95. It is 429 pages and it probably covers most of what I need to know - however, a "do it yourself" manual in the tradition of "Sunset Books", it is not...
If you do a search of "steel framing" on the net, you come up a with a host of builders who list that as one of their activities. I will include a quick and dirty list of some references and sites that are a little more general than the specific vendors (not exactly a work of art...):
I found the article at "tools of the trade" to give some useful tips on steel framing:

*I picked up "Residential Stel Framing Construction Guide" by E.N. Lorre a couple years ago at Home Depot. 1994, Technical Publications, Las Vegas, Nevada. ISBN 0-9651302-0-7.Basically it's just a book of hundreds of CAD drawn framing details and isometrics. No real text passages. Not a comprehensive book perhaps, but illustrates in an organized way, just about any connection or condition, even a cut light guage metal stair stringer. Sort of like a pattern book I suppose.

A book that I have found is "Residential Steel Design and Construction" by John H. Hacker and Julie A. Gorges. It is printed by McGraw-Hill and seems very complete. (In other words, it has more information than I need to do my basement!) Hope this helps.
