I’ve just sold my own business and am about to GC my first home. I was wondering if there is any good construction software out there for budgeting, cost-tracking and so forth. I could use Excel but would rather not reinvent the wheel if there’s a program that’s industry specific. (I used QuickBooks in my business and there are some limited tools there.) Since this is not yet a career but just a one time project (at least for now), I’d rather not spend a fortune if possible.
Thanks!!

I use QB Pro and am happy with it for book keeping. QB Pro does have estimate and inventory abilities. Recently Intuit has been sending me info on a new program designed for contractors but thats all I know. I'm not sure of the cost.
Jim- any good user group you would recommend that has small volume builders using QBPro. I have found the one at JLC, but it seems like it is not very active. Thanks for any help. Roy
I don't know of any user groups for QBPro at all. Maybe try the Intuit site but I'm sure you already thought of that. My accountant helped me get started and I bought the "QBPro for Dummies" book and it has helped a little bit but it takes time to learn.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
its called Master Builder and it is the stuff. Be prepared for a bit bigger learning curve than QBPro. Cost is around $2000
Thanks for the reply.
2000.00$ !! That's just a little less than I paid for AUTOCAD 2000. Are you using the program? Is it worth the money? I would like to know.
So far QBPro has done everything I need and I can't imagine what you get for the huge cost difference. Let me know if you have time.
if QB Pro works for you, dont change. But here goes. MB7 has a complete audit trail, prints checks completely from blank check paper, has much better integration and reporting. (im just learning it myself). MB7 has everything from estimating, scheduling, loan draw management, ar, ap, inventory management, ect. I will go into more detail if you want. ps, it is a relational database program that was originally written im MS Access if that tells you anything. Leigh
There is a Quickbooks section in the newsgroups. I think that is is under that alt. grouping.
