I have one that I installed in our bathroom 6 years ago since I was re-doing the bathroom and there was no heat source withinin the room. We barely use it as I guess heat finds it's way into the bathroom from the rest of the house and the room never calls for heat. Once in a while I run the heater before bathing and it works fine and it has a little bit of noise to it. It's 120Volt and wired to a regular T/stat. Above a garage I would think you'd need multiple units...
They say ....
They say the 4000 watt unit is good for 600 sq ft.
So my 35 x 15 foot room might be on the edge and with a garage below, perhaps even more so. Secondly the heat might not be very even with one heater... even centered on the long wall.
?
It defintely wont be even, in the area you are talking about. To even it out think electric baseboard. Remember that the literature telling you 600ft presumes the area is well insulated and that there is no outside air infiltration. Hands down the best heating is radiant flooring. It's the most comfortable and even but its expensive and not always feasible if you're not doing new construction.
Thinking ....
I am thinking two 2000 watt units, opposite ends or teh room and oppsite walls (across from each other but 20 feet appart the long way)
Yeah, if you're going electric in a reasonably large room, with ample wall space, baseboard makes a lot more sense than wall heaters. You only use wall heaters in something like a bathroom where wall (baseboard) space is limited.
Baseboards ...
baseboards aer ugly and teh wall space is eaten up so furniture placement is tough. Aand they heat up really slowly, which for me is importnat since teh room will be used for short periods and then not at all..
