Anybody here a “TrexPro”?
For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s a link…http://trex.com/professionals/contractors/
To any of you who are…..
Is this a worthwhile marketing endeavor for a deck builder?
What are the “referrals” like? Are they very specific or is it just a huge phonebook sized list?
When you had your first deck inspected by the Trex Company person, how did it go down? Did he stay long? Did he concentrate more on the structural part of the deck? Or did he just come out to see how pretty you could make their Trex stuff look?
I’m currently building a Trex deck and have applied to the program. I don’t really expect anything great from it, but seeing that there is no one else in my area on the list, I thought I might cash in on a few jobs per year.
Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this program?

I used to be a TrexPro. They send you stuff for free in the mail... Never actually had a referal that resulted in business though. I'll answer your other Q's later when I have some time.
I sent in the application with pics - nothing. Emailed a follow-up - nothing. Phoned a follow-up - a polite "we'll have someone get back to you" - then nothing.
In my area there's no licensing required so I try and use other orgs to validate my business in my customers eyes. Trexpro might be a good thing to plug to a customer but from what I've seen so far there's 'nothing' really behind it. Maybe someone else has a diferent experience.

Wow, I was really hoping to hear something good about this, but from all I've gathered here and elsewhere, there really must not be that much too it.
we're a Trex Pro.. got some jigs (spacing & railing ).... occasional referrals.. got a nice job out of it
they seem to run hot & cold...

I was a "TP" :-) for a few years....
Is this a worthwhile marketing endeavor for a deck builder? Can't hurt - it's free.
What are the "referrals" like? I got 3 or 4. None ever materialized into a job though. Some of it may be that most people in my area don't want to spend that much money on a deck. I guess you gotta build up the right clientel.
When you had your first deck inspected by the Trex Company person, how did it go down? He came out, looked the job over and said OK. Mainly he was just looking for proper spacing and probably the fastening. I asked him a few Qs. We had a nice chat. Did he stay long? 20 min. Did he concentrate more on the structural part of the deck? NO. My guess is that the only "structural" might have bee just to check that I wasn't over-spanning the decking boards. Or did he just come out to see how pretty you could make their Trex stuff look? Yea - more or less. I think he just wanted to make sure I was pretty much following the install instructions and wasn't putting out any BS work.

They mailed me some nice brass (bronze) little oval plaques that said something to the effect of "this Trex deck was built by >>name of co<<". Thew were about the size of a belt buckle. They also mailed me some spacing tools for both balusters and the decking boards, plus a sample kit for selling customers that had samples of the different colors and some literature.
Matt,Great info, thanks for the response.Who else???
