I am thinking through all this stuff about capturing that next client. Yard signs, printed brochures, web page, truck lettering, etc.
Does anybody think it is worthwhile, in print or at a web page, for a little bio info on yourself, maybe even a photo, to be there?

I do it on my site. Here in NC, the typical tradesman just got out of jail, shows up with a blood alcohol concentration of .2 first thing in the morning, and is having his wages garnished. Either that, or it's "No Habla Ingles." My target market is educated and affluent, and personalizing my business image helps them feel like they're dealing with a professional and there's nothing to be afraid of.
Last night I visited a potential client (got the job), and they asked me if any of the guys on my crew speak English. I told them I do the work myself, and they were extremely relieved and pleased. Another project I won earlier in the week: The last contractors the woman had hired buggered up the job and had no insurance or other means of financial responsibility...and the crew stole some valuable items from her house. These people want to work with me because they feel comfortable with me, not because I'm the smartest guy in the world or have the biggest truck. I get a lot of repeat business.
Business is all about relationships. The better job you do of introducing yourself, the better relationship you build. You also prequalify people who don't like your bio or your marketing materials, because it's waste of time to talk with them anyway. One of my principles is that I won't work with people I don't like, and I'd rather have them find out they don't like me by reading my website so they don't bother me.
That's just my opinion. The approach works for me.
I think it very important. You are always selling yourself first. Everything else just follows naturally if you've sold yourself.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!
Warning! Be cautious when taking any framing advice from me. There are some in here who think I'm a hackmeister...they might be right! Of course, they might be wrong too!
