    Ralph,

What happened - get the notice for next year's insurance bill? I got mine 2 weeks ago... Insurance went up another 50% after nearlyl doubling last year! I'm looking to leave too! Whoever thought they'd be paying $4850 per year in homeowners insurance! I sure didn't.  And that's after they told me my screen enclosure is only covered for $6900 this year! Geez... If these keeps going, there will really be some cheap property in Florida - and soon!

Rant over.... Good luck selling your home.

Alburtis is where my Dad's SO lives. We cruised around that area. Emmaus and Macungie, et al.

WWhew what a drive, I clocked 1550 miles from Fri. AM to last night...rain all the way home..eeech.

I'll be back this summer for the final pick up of mom, bring her back here to a 'home'.

            >The Blue Orchid?A friend's brother owns that! (Unless it's been sold in the last few years.)Sphere mentioned Macungie...that's where I was born and raised. Probably said that before, but it allows me to reminisce. Those were the good ol days. No they weren't. Gonna be back in July for a week. Already steeling myself for the changes since last visit maybe three years ago.

          11. timkline | May 16, 2006 02:57pm | #25

I was teasing sphere when I said the Blue Orchid as I can still remember the last time I was there maybe 10 years ago.   Fantastic dinner and the service was amazing.  I think the bill was about $90 for the 2 of us back then.  10 years later and I still swallow hard.

Did you go to high school in Emmaus or were you gone before then  ?

One of the big things you'll notice is the re-routing of Route 100 and Route 222.  It's confusing as hell, even for a local.  The 222 work is only about 25% finished.

I'm an east-end city boy.  My home is in Wilson Borough, right next to Easton.  Grew up in Bethlehem.

Let me know when you'll be in town,  I'll buy you a beer at the Farmhouse in Emmaus.  It's just down the road a piece from Macungie.

I went to Emmaus Jr High before moving in '70. Then moved back to Allentown after college until '98 or so. My first job was at Air Products and I used to run through the cornfields that the bypass or connector or whatever it's called is now changing. Used to get eggs from a farmer with real live chickens along 100. Brother worked at Rodale for years.Knew Blue Orchid was pricey...thus I never ate there. :)

Where's your property? Not in the market...just curious.

      1. sonnie | May 16, 2006 03:11pm | #26

I don't know if you are familiar with Asheville, NC but I have about 9 acres on the east side of Asheville, close to the VA. I kept it in my divorce to be used as a trade one day in my dreaming of moving back to Florida.  I used to live in Vero Beach and I remember it the way it was - not the way it is now - as most people who lived in Florida in the 70's or before can remember how great it once was.

My house is in Haw Creek, back up against the Parkway in Sondley.Riceville Road? Have a friend back there. Another family friend is trying to sell a house on Riverbend. And the thieving excavator I once used lives back there on Grassy Branch, I think.

You're right- born and raised on Ricevilee Road. Sure do miss it, especially now that the heat and bugs are coming out here in SC. So the insurance premiums are high, blamed on probablility of storms? Our HO insurance has doubled in 2 years because of the "storm activity" in FL.  All I can say is that, insurance companies, like gas companies, etc. have really good lobbyists.

          Hey Soonie,

I too used to live Indian River County in those days. (Actually lived in Fellsmere but thats a whole nother story) That was before I-95 went all the way through. Went to VBHS in 73/74. Still get down there occasionally but I could not live there again. Asheville sounds like you are on to something. I live in TN now and can not imagine moving. (I'm retired now so I'm not up for a big move). But still get to FL quite often.

          Thanks for prompting my memory.
