THAT'S NUTS....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming

Will have the heat going in less than 2 weeks...just in time. Have not had enough time to work on things around the house, that darn copper guy has me all tied up.{G}

Sphere,
I am just outside of Louisville between Lou and Bardstown.
I have lots of questions if you would be so kind to help me.
Can I email you?
Thanks Chris
I am surprised that David Richerson has not jump in here. Must be busy.
He is a stones throw (or maybe a potato camon shoot) from you. I keep for getting where which county he is in, but it is SE from LOU and workings in LOU. And Gunner is also in LOU.
I am a refuge living in Kansas City. Orginally from SE Jefferson county (Hikes Point, Hursborne Ln, J-town).
NE of Louisville now, Bill.
Was busy as a one armed paper hanger yesterday. Didn't get in until around 8:00pm, and had to get grandson into bed (DW is PTO pres. and plannig Fall Festival for school).
Chris;
Fire away with your questions. Go ahead and post them here. Answers may not be specific to your loacl area, but you can be sure they will be varied, sometimes humorus, and loaded with sound advice (for the most part).
Dave
Yeah, I'm an old Hurstborne/J-town guy -- Cardwell Way, Wesley Ave, AR Kennedy Elementary, Seneca HS. Used to ride my bike up and down Hurstborne -- could ride from one end to the other and maybe have three cars pass me. (Of course, that's still true, but now because of gridlock.) My younger brother still lives with/near my parents out near Taylorsville. He used to work as a carp off and on, but unfortunately found it more profitable to steal from my parents and gamble. (Long story)
I don't know Wesley Ave, but other than that we where just a few "inches" apart.
I lived for 10 years on Midland and Rosemont AVe. Now NO ONE would know where they are, but there are two side streets that fit in the wedge between Taylorsville Rd and Hikes Ln. Behind Bauer's Tavern/Lunch Stand/Quick Trip/and find restraunt.
I remember going down there to buy bread and the last summer that we lived there going to sleep to the sound of "Dreaming Of Jeanie" playing in the beer garden.
We where in the nursery business and had a small greenhouse. That was there for a long time after the area was commericalized. But now Breckinridge Ln was extended through to Hikes Ln and took it.
We then built on Hursborne Ln., but my father died before the greenhouses was built. But we had 2 story 30x90' building with living space on the 2nd floor. It is still there, behind the church that bought the property from use.
So I went to J-town elementry for a couple of years. Then when Kennedy was built I went there for 7&8 grade as Sececa was being built. Was in Seneca's first graduating class.
And you are right about Hurstborne Ln. There where a hand full of houses in Hurstboren Acres right at Taylorsville Rd. A handfull of house at the Texas Gas compressor plant, but that was way back off of an access road.
Other than that I think that there where 3 house (including ours) south of the double bend in the rd where the Texas Gas driveway was and a few farm house to the North, but not many.
Then we move to Michael Dr (Houston Acres) just off Taylorsville Rd about a block from Hikes Ln.
And I had an uncle that lived on either Sterling or Hallsdale, just behind CArdwell.
Chris,
I sometimes work in Bardstown, more frequently around Harrodsburg/Danville/Perryville area. I'm based in Lexington. Glad to help if I can.
I invented the dinner train.
I ate on the Dinner Train Last Friday Night!!! It was Granny's B-day.
I am just starting out on my own after years of working for others and carpentry school.
I am unsure what licsenses and insurance I will need. I am also unsure if I should sole pro or LLC.
I am real close to 4 counties do I need different licsense for each?
Thanks for any help. Chris
I am unsure what licsenses and insurance I will need.
The short answer is you must have liability for sure and worker's comp if you have employees or if you sub contract to others. In Lexington, you have to have both to get a contractor's license. I have to get a contractor's license in the years I do business in Jessamine and Boyle Counties and have been shut down in both for not having one. The inspector will drive you to the court house, point you to the proper door where they take your $25.00 and drive you back to your job 15 mins later. You will then have to file local taxes for the work you did in those counties. I don't know about Nelson County or the surrounding areas. Call the building inspector in each county and city you are going to be working in and ask the same questions you asked here. Don't buy any licenses unless you know you're going to working in that locality.
I am also unsure if I should sole pro or LLC.
Ask around locally for a good accountant/financial manager. They'll be able to advise you and look at your books yearly and tell you if you should change as you grow. I've got a great one. If you want to drive to Lex. once a year to get your taxes done, email me and I'll give you his info. I'm a sole proprietor with no employees, but lots of subs.
Welcome and good luck.
Ps....... that dinner train's a great time and I had one of the better steaks I'd had in a while. Haven't been for several years, might have to make a trip.
I invented Maker's Mark.
sure thing, fire away here or email..no problem..just watch out for that Gunner guy..if he comes to your house, the toilet won't be flushed and yer cat will be pregnant..{G}

Hey neighbor. I live in Shepherdsville, your probably pretty close. I have'nt messed with residential in awhile but I know it's still strong. The big problem in this county (Bullitt) is that Tract homes are killing prices. We've got a couple of builders (Dog woods homes) that don't pay squat, and that kills the local prices. There big thing is loyalty, they pay bottom dollar but it's all year long with no down time.
As far as remodeling and stuff I'm not really up to speed on that. Drop me a line if you want to hook up, we'll do lunch or something. It might be a bear to do the next two weekends, I'm redoing my roof including plywood this weekend, and next weekend we're doing an after hours remodel over in Henderson. But if your this close I know we can work something out.Who Dares Wins.
Thanks for the reply!!!
You must be very close. What kind of work do you do?
I am going to focus on remodeling and Decks, and painting, and maybe some roofing.
I would really appreciate a chance to chat with you, I will glady treat you to a couple of lunchs for any help you can give.
My email is [email protected]
I look forward to hereing from you
