Man......I'd love to have one of those. So much $$$$ up front, but if the engine goes further and the gas mileage is better, it may very well be worth the initial cost. I'm curious to see current owner's input......anybody? I'm in the market as well....

We were loooking very seriously at a Sprinter about a year and a half ago. We decided to wait, but . . .
a good friend of mine is a carpet cleaner and he drives everywhere. I sent him the info on the Sprinter and he ended up buying one. I think he has the 120" wheel base. He runs the thing loaded down with all his equipment and still gets 20-22 mpg on avg. He loves the thing. It drives very well. It does look a little funny coming down the road, but what a nice machine. That Mercedes deisel is supposed to last a long long time.
His old van got about 10 mpg or less. With the amount of miles he drives, he spends a little less than half as much on fuel as he used to. It offsets his payment so much that he pays something like 250 a month on his payment (after factoring in the fuel savings). He recommends it. Seems like a good vehicle.
If you get one, post pics. I'd love to see it.
There is a short thread in the Volkswagen TDI discussion board about the ownership experience of a Sprinter:

I read a review in some car mag a coupla months ago that said they were a bit under powered and handeled poorly at high highway speeds ....
said they were great for around town and city driving.
the article said they were more along the lines of a bread truck/delivery van ... than a regular van ... as far as speed/handeling goes .. which makes perfect sense to me.
seeing as how I like to drive fast ... and take a trip on the PA turnpike a coupla times a week .... I figured I'm better off looking at a utility van or small/low box van.
short and fat usually translated to better/faster handeling.
take an extended test drive ... find out for yourself. I'd even tell the guy I'm gonna lay down a tarp first ... but I'm gonna load it up with all my tools before I take my all day test drive.

I've been eyeing the 140" wheelbase passenger van models but haven't decided on high or low roof.
Today I ran beside a 156" highroof cargo van model and it is a large vehicle.
Pulled up beside it on the highway (in my benz diesel) to listen to the engine.
Lovely diesel clatter.
Noticing more 140" high roof cargo models on the road these days.
These are not going to be the rubber burning/gas guzzling V-8 engine American vans.
But I'm sure they will run all day and night non-stop coast-to-coast on far fewer gallons.
