noticed today that 12/2 was in the 40 per 250′ range, just bought a 1000′ 14/2 on ebay for 62.00. i swore when it was hitting a hundred if it ever came down i was putting all my retirement money into it.[thats only 10 rolls!]
whats everybody think on this, wheres the bottom on wire?
i have a couple hundred sheets of osb at 8.00,so i’m thinking of selling them at market [5.50] and buy wire,it’s easier to store and i can still loose money .lol
i’m sure as soon as i buy a few rolls it will go to 16.00.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE – WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN’T
MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN’T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE
DUCT TAPE.

Recall had to pay close to $20 250 ft 12-2 wg in in 1975, wnet up from there then back down to $22. $62 per K is a good deal, better'n gold, surprised your were not outbid except for shipping costs .
Sorry, but I think your experience stockpiling OSB should be a good indicator of the wisdom of stockpiling copper.
i got caught in the osb thing when it got up in the 17.00 a sheet deal. so when it hit 8.00 it felt like it was free. wire kind of the same thing. i bought some in the 90.00 a roll range,so 40 seems good. but i would guess that it will go down some more with the way things are.
i also got 8 new central air units in the barn........................................YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'TMOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THEDUCT TAPE.

I got a deal on 10 jugs of R-22 a few months back........ give it a few years and we may need to do some swapping ;-)
i have about 280 lbs of r22 to go with the airs, but i'll keep you in mind. if it does what 12 did you should do pretty well.YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'TMOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THEDUCT TAPE.
Watch out, this "economy" thing is killing everything. China used to buy our copper wire by the ton, along with re-bar and steel, and cement, now the building has all but stopped, so copper gonna come down, already has in the scrap department.
I'm stockpiling ammunition. It takes up less room, and if I need wire, I'll sell some ammo. Same goes for food.

Hmmm, now that's food for thought there!
JimNever underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
I hear scrap prices are really down and scrappers are holding what they have until prices go up.
I doubt wire prices have bottomed as manufacturers are likely still working through stock purchased when prices were high... or on contract when prices were high.
When I see wire for sale on Craigslist, it is normally around 50% off the current retail. eBay shipping and fees eat into profits.
I think you would be better off in a bank CD than trying the wire market... considering you will lose at least $500 on your "couple hundred" sheets of OSB at a $2.50 loss per sheet (not including your time handling it, storage and interest lost).
If you have a *need* for some and can use it, then buy some... otherwise, what's the point?

You'll have to talk to RalphWicklund.
I understand he's an old hand in the stockpiling OSB department.
hey Ralph, how's it hangin'?

He He.
My electrician buys many rolls at a time at HD as a hedge against copper prices increasing. Then, if prices drop, he returns them to HD and buys again at a lower price. Win Win!
I saw it in HD about a month ago. Someone bought a whole pallet of romex.
I forgot the exact price but you can go back to my post about 2 weeks ago... home depot on it's contractor bid board if you bought a pallet you could get 12ga solid 500ft rolls for i think it was $23 roll delivered ... it was going for over $40 on ebay that day... I'm guess'n that was maybe 20% or so above scrap... i'm sure there are warehouses full wishing to be sold...
