I have a barn with cedar siding that is over 80 yrs old. The paint is several layers thick and I am trying to decide what to do with it. It is sound but peeling something terrible. I have seen ads for the paintshaver and wonder if it is worth my time or should I consider replacing the lap siding with fiber cement lap siding? Thanks for your input.

Hello,
I have used the paint shaver from american international tool on several occassions it works great with a vacum attachment. It takes some time to get it done pat but it does the job. After the shaving is over use a paint sander to smooth the claps to a smooth surface then prime with a oil linseed based product. good luck
I bought the considerably cheaper Metabo version. Haven't used it on my clapboards yet but did do a wooden storm cellar door. VERY fast. Almost fun. <g>
Needed new 'doors' for it and no dealers stocked the $1.50 parts. Called Metabo who sent them to me for free. For a few cents, and until proven otherwise, I now think they believe in, and have, GREAT customer service!
