Hi guys,
Has anyone out there tried the Rainhandler water deflector (www.rainhandler.com) in place of traditional gutters? I’d like to give it a try on a custom model home we’re building but the price is a little steep for doing the entire house.
Any inputs or anyone know of something similar?
Thanks.

I was having a problem during heavy rains - the water would come off my concrete porch, and run into the basement. I have no gutters.
I had seen the rainhandler ad in ThisOldHouse magazine, and went to their website, and looked over the specs. Seemed neat, a spiffy solution.
I've noted the price as well, but ordered a single unit (plus the short eave extensions), and installed it.
Since then, even in heavy rains, I'm no longer getting the water in the basement. I don't think it works QUITE as well as the literature suggests, or maybe it's the 12/12 roof where it's installed...
But it is having the intended effect. I'm considering getting additional units when my construction project is over.
One problem I've seen - they'll ice up pretty good in the winter, depending upon the eave heating conditions. I just knock off the dangling icicles, and it hasn't been a big problem in the last 3 years.

*Mike,One caveat - I put some on my house - 12/12 slate roof. They worked well until the snow slid off last winter - tore them right out.Richard
*TJ and Richard, Thanks for the input. The plus side of where I'll be using them is I'm in Florida so I don't have to worry about the drawbacks of ice and snow that you mentioned. I may have to give them a try. Thanks again!Mike Rimoldi
*Just remember that all the water collected by the area of your roof will still be falling off the edge near your foundation. Rainhandler only avoids the erosion, it can not do anything to reduce the quantity of water collected and deposited near your foundation. This means that when enough water falls it could still cause you the water problems. If you are worried, or have trouble now, with water, then only real gutters that direct ALL the water well away from the house would be best.
