I just saw this other Cabot product. It's some sort of Australian branded deck oil. Forget the name but has a silhouette of Aussie on the can. You might check out that stuff.

BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD OIL IS NICE ON IPEA.
Put a roof over it and build walls around it so no water or sunlight can reach the wood.
Maybe there's a market for deck cozies.
If the cabot products don't help maybe you just have to change your thinking and embrace the natural way of the wood.
Yeah, Cabot or Sikkens does a halfway decent job, but nothing is gonna prevent the weathering entirely.

OK, seriously now, the UV rays of the sun is what does the damage to the wood which is why it turns. Some people do a yearly treatment with deckwash products to lift the damaged wood cells off, but that is bad for the wood in the long run.
so the next is a surface treatment that has UV inhibitors that prevent the UV from getting tyo the wood. Penofin is the best I know of in my experience. I've heard some good things about the Cabots and the Sikkens products also.
But you have to be aware that an inhibitor only inhibits the UV rays. If you keep ALL the light from getting to the wood, you will not see the wood yourself.
Like the diff between water resistant and water proof. WR is nice but you don't expect too much out of it for working in the rain all day long.

Iv'e had excellent results with Penofin products. Pricey but they seem to hold up well on my cedar deck. I used the "cedar" stain. The only problem is constant stirring to keep the solids in suspension.

This doesn't answer your question, but where did you find locust decking? What size was it? How was it to work? Inquiring minds want to know.
Steve
i bought out of local paper It was milled locally I have been told that there is a lot of waste up to 40% the sizes are 4 3/4 53/4 63/4 The price varies a lot I payed 3 a foot but have seen it up to 6 or 7 .. holds up well though
YOU PAID WHAT? 3 bucks a Board FT?
Oh man..you got hosed. It's .75cents a BF here, 1.00$ at most.
BTW, it makes lousy decking, it'll walk like a dog with worms chasing fleas..thats why it's so cheap. It also about explodes when fastened.

i couldn't bring logs to the mill have them cut, dried, planed and sanded for that here. I haven't had any problems predrilled and screwed, less than 200 sq feet
