Hi all…Been years since I’ve visited, but here I am again….
Casing some windows with “beaded” (i.e. the opposite of “fluted”) casing, and wondering what people would use as an apron under the sill for same. Using the beaded stock seems completely bogus…..
Oh, the head (whohoo, Architrave) is a fairly fancy profile. Of course, It’s all masonite……sigh……
TIA

Hey!
This years Fest-at Mike and Helen Smith's-Aug -second week thereof.
Beaded? Is that the profile with maybe 5 beads in about 2-1/2 wide?
If it's similar, I had the pleasure maybe twice, both to match what was there.
In both, there was a flat stock, with a small taper, out at the top. It did not draw attension to the bottom, just gave the undersill some bulk.
Both were painted.
If it's not that profile-beats the heck outta me.
You got a picture you can post?
Always a pleasent surprise to see you show up.
Hey, good to see some of the old folks still about.......yeah, that's the trim but closer to 3 1/2 wide....I'm leaning towards flat stock as well...
Sucks working with clients with bad taste.....no pics......too fugly
J
The casing I worked with wasn't the fugly type-I had never seen it b/4. Was not that wide and had a slight convex curve to it.
I'm hunting for a picture/
Slight convex curve, eh. No, the casing is flat. But we do have serious convexity on the "1/2 beaded column" trim (about 8" wide) going around the second hand vinyl sliding door.....in fact, it's got enough convexity that it'll stick out well past the Architrave, unless they figure out what to do with that.
Oh, and the floor to ? windows that flank said door, well, their heads don't align with the slider. And the archtop transom, which should have been ganged to the slider (and been the same width as it....but oh well).....well, I'm wondering whether they make beaded flex trim.....
Worst thing is, it's my cousins house.....She will henceforth be named Cousin Blanding.....
Nice chattin' with ya Calvin......

Always a pleasure.
Don't forget that fest within shouting distance of you.
I'd think one of those freebie aprons they pass out at HD would hold lots of beads.
Blowin' smoke up my skirt doesn't help my apron, darn it.....
Oooh, ranch...or clamshell casing. Nope, tho the house had that throughout, before they decided to try and McMansion it.
Coulda went with it in the addition, but it wouldn't have been "special then". 'Course, folks who call flat stock crown......what ya gonna do.....
BTW, the casing I referred to in the OP as beaded is more properly called "reeded".......think the inverse of fluted to get a picture....
This page has just about every profile one can imagine: http://www.hardwoodinteriorsinc.com/PROFILES/casing/casing.html
Nope, not ranch
Here's what I assume you are talking about.
Now take the edges off each side-you got the beads, add a couple and convex that middle-into a slight hump.
I really have to hunt for a photo..................................
It was nice.
