Took a few quick pics this morning of a nice home I’ve been working on off & on since Christmas.
I did the glue-up & install of the curved cherry skirtboards & railings. (They were profiled by another guy). Stairs were built in place by the framers, quite accurately even. Made the glue up & install pretty easy. There are three of the curved balconies on the second floor. The basement stairs are underneath the upper stairs, should finish those railings up in the morning.
Also did the hardwood floor install, #1 Com 4″ Walnut & inlaid the compass medallion in the foyer. Tomorrow I’m going to cut in a border in the dining room made out of strips of ash & maria rosa.

I wish you hacks would stop posting this junk and show something nice for once...JUST KIDDING!
That looks great! Will you be posting pics of the job once it's all cleaned up?
Mike,
Excellent! Looks like some fun work.
Are you back to 100% healthwise?
I'm close to home tomorrow, building bookcases...then commuting to Lake City for about a month (some arches and curves on this one).
Again, nice job there.
Brian
Yeah, I'm back to 100%. Missed about three work days. Thanks for asking.
Have fun in Lake City. My buddies dad has a sailboat in Lake City & they own a motor yacht(I think thats what its called) down in Wabasha. Spent a day & night on the river with them last summer. Beautiful place to spend a hot summer day.
How far is Lake City from you?
Mike
Lake City is a 45 minute drive upriver...a longer drive than I like, but a beautiful drive it is.Glad to hear you are well.
Nice work.
Is the compass rose laid out to true north or magnetic north?

"so it goes"
I was thinking the same thing "true or Magnetic". Most likely nautical in nature, so I would guess magnetic.__________________________

Mike,
That looks great.
Are the skirt boards laminated or veneered? How about the risers?
Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood
Chuck, the skirts are laminated, five 1/8" plies. Glued up in place before the drywall went on, so I could use the studs to clamp to.
The risers were all straight, so solid stock was used for them.
Mike
Its magnetic north - HO tried using a GPS to set it, but it wouldn't work in the house. I'm guessing that would give true north?
Anyways, I set the template on the floor, handed him a pencil & had HIM put a mark where he wanted north.
