Are you moving?

andybuildz | Posted in General Discussion on June 20, 2007 04:52am

I’m not going anywhere yet but I’ve been investigating different things from real estate MLS to moving companies to yada yada yada’s.
I found a GREAT moving company which is rare. Thats why I started this thread. In case anyone needs one. You pack your own stuff and unload yourself. Seems to come out to be less than if you even rented your own moving van and drove it yourself.
And I figure from a rough estimate that its “way less” than half of hiring a full service moving company.
I’ve looked at dozens of sites and found two that got great reviews.
This was the best. Anyone ever use them?
Here’s the site and below this link is the link for epinion’s reviews.

I bought a truck.  Saved the panic of unloading it quickly.  Very cheap storage.  Later, traded it for my first earth mover.

Thats funny...I was thinking the same thing. Use it for storage temporarily cept I'm not buying a truck the size I'd need for six grand(ish). and the gas and tolls and and and...but I can see how it might work for some people.

Saved the panic of unloading it quickly.<<<Oh yeh...one good thing about this company is they give you three days to load and three more to unload and if you attach the days to a weekend you get the two weekend days included for free.

We moved from Iowa to Tulsa last fall using ABF. If you don't mind packing and loading the truck It works great.

I think you get a better job oof packing stuff doing it yourself. But It takes some learning to get it all safely into the truck. Also a lot of pads need to be rented from U-Haul.

The cost was great and the load moved to Tulsa faster than we drove since we laid over overnight in KC. The load and unload time allowances were ample.

I would deffinatly use them again.

I bought the truck.  Went to U-haul to price a truck, and ended up buying one of their used ones.

I was moving blind and had no idea on what I was going to do for housing once I got to the new location.  So I bought the truck.  That gave me a month to pack and load it.  We then drove it to my Brother's's house about six hours from where I was moving, and it sat at his house for four months until I bought my new place, then when I got it here, I spent several months unloading it, and getting things in the house and unpacked with no time stress.

Since then I have used it several times to haul materials for renovations/improvements I am doing, and one load of hardwood for the shop.

Now I'm done and settling in, I plan to sell it.  Hopefully the sales price will be within a thousand or so of what I paid for it.  If not I may keep it, and build a hunting camper out of it, or pull the box off to use as a storage shed, and put a flat bed on it.

We used them last fall to move my then-fiance from New Jersey out here to Montana.  It was a very positive experience--as I recall it turned out to be about two thousand less than U-Haul when we factored in the gas and mileage costs.  There was plenty of time to load and unload and everything arrived in perfect condition.  One potential problem: make sure there is a loading ramp at the departure and arrival points.  The bed of the truck is a full four feet off the ground and a long ramp is necessary.  Apparently, there were only one or two of them at the ABF facility in Billings (for the whole state of Montana!) and we weren't sure we were going to get it.  We did and everything turned out great--just make sure you can get one.

The only other downside was spending three days and 2500 miles in the car with three cats.  Thank God for kitty drugs...

I was reading about the ramp issue in the reviews. Seems no one seems to be able to get ramps when unloading...or very few. If I end up needing this company I spose if I had to I could use my 20'+ aluminum scaffold planks with plywood over them...lol.I also was reading reviews about auto transporters...They seem to be a nightmare for a lot of people....seems driving your vehicle really pays a lot of the time.
