I am intrigued by Armstrong’s Plank ceiling products called heritige or country classic. These go by their product numbers 480 and 480. I am considering installing and painting about 1000sg ft in a kitchen/dining room and would like some first hand knowledge about the look and feel of this product. This is a high end house, so some type of non-drywall ceiling is appropriate.
Armstrong’s web site lacks the close up shots to get a real feel for the quality of the material. I ordered the Woodhaven sample package, but it looks too much like plastic/pergo besides which I have yet to find an installation after calling Armstrong and their design houses that I can see.
Is there any experience out there to share?

Dean,
Keep shopping, this is a low end product. It is easy to install but it also pretty delicate stuff & really won't hold up or give a high end look
Hope this helps

Dean, I have used the Armstrong Ceiling and I was impressed with it. It obviously isn't wood, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it won't hold up. Being on the ceiling it won't get the wear and tear of walls or floors, so I think for the right job, it really looks good. I had a customer on a high end job who loves it, she also has a pergo floor, so to each his or her own! Sabretooth
Get ahold of Armin if you want a high end plank type ceiling. He puts a fine finish on the wood . He has several speices of wood to choose from. I think that you would be very happy with the planks he produces. I don't have his email or other info handy but check his profile and send him a message.
Don - Thanks I sent Armin an email.
All - This is exactly the kind of feedback I need, but I would really like to see these products installed in person. Anyone know of any installations in So Cal?
Dean
How about poplar tongue and groove? I am thinking this might be a getter alternative to Armstrong's product, given that the intent is to paint it. Any experience or photos to share?
Dean,
Armin's stuff is gorgeous and very reasonably priced. We ended up going with locally supplied spruce t&g for our house due to price....but we always wish we could have gone with Armin's stuff.
Having said that, the spruce t&G looks beautiful and certainly a huge step up from the typical textured drywall in most homes.
