I have a client with asbestos shingle siding on her late 40’s home.
Some evil contractor installed a new window in her bathroom, then disappeared with his draw before reworking the siding. The original product, being illegal and all, is unavailable does any one know of a source for a nonlethal look-alike? This particular style is 1/4″ thick & 16″WX12″T. It also has a sculpted bottom edge rather than the square edge I’ve usually seen. I have surfed this every way I can think of and local bldg. suppliers have been no help. Help!

yes you can still find them at home depot both straight and scalloped, i know they do not make them out of asbestos anymore, i dont know about color selection probably just white. I had a friend who had a special cutter that would cut them worked real well. Have fun putting them on you usually break 1 for every three you put up.
*we get them special order sometimes.. both patterns.. any carbide blade will cut them.. so will slate cutters or anything you can cut fibercement with.. that's all it is....as dave says..they break if you look at them wrong... not nearly as strong as the original product, which wasn't that strong either...
*Where you at Larry ? I have some of the original shingles but they are a bit thinner. come an gitem.
*I don't know if you've seen this site, but maybe you can use something here. It takes a while to load...http://www.gaf.com/products/Documents/resfc200.pdf
*I've gotten them at Home Depot
*Hardiplank makes a 4' X 8' panel that is 1/4" thick and textured somewhat on one side. I'm getting ready to cut pieces for a similar situation. Either Lowes or Home Depot stocks the material and the other said they could order it. In this area of Virginia at least, HD no longer carries the replacement panels that matched the original asbestos pieces.
