Attaching a deck to a brick facia

I want to build a couple of decks off my house, but I’m not quite sure how to attach the ledger. Actually, there are two different decks with two different problems. My house was built in 1929, and has a brick foundation with brick veneer siding. On the back of my house, I would like to build a deck that comes off the second floor. I have built several decks over the years, but none for a brick house. Any suggestions on how to attached the ledger board?
The second deck will be built between my house and garage. The garage is detached, but has an elevated slab breezeway that is about 5 feet off the ground. I want to build the deck the same level as the slab, and between the house and garage. It will span about 14′ in either direction. I was considering building a free-standing deck there, and not attaching it to the house, slab or garage, but then I’m worried it could start moving over time, and pull away from the elevated slab. Attaching it to the elevated slab might be difficult, since it’s only about 4″ thick, although it’s about 6″ at the edges. The garage is full thickness brick wall. 2 courses. The house, I believe, is only one course veneer at that elevation.
Any suggestions?

You can't attach a ledger to the brick veneer. It is a code issue. NOT SAFE!
Build it as a seperate structure.
It will have to be a free standing structure. What would normally be the ledger will have to be replaced by a gurter. There was an article in this mag s few months back that showed this exact process in practice. It had the article featured on the cover actually. I would either attach the structural supporting posts to the footings, or partially burry the posts in the footings.
Thanks all. This was pretty much the answer I was expecting.
