im planning on building a small front porch off the front of my house…what is the best way t attach a ledger to a brick facade….and what is the best way to flash it???

I agree with Barry, and not just on brick veneer houses--but that's a personal preferences for add-on decks.
It's especially true, IMO on brick veneer structures. The brick facade is pretty much free-standing, and is really only meant to carry its own weight, straight down into its foundation.
Loads applied to the brick facade only introduce all sorts of rotational and torque loads to a very linear sort of structure. Bolting through the brick to attach to the structural framing beyond introduces yet another issue, compressing the veneer across its airspace off the structural wall.
Freestanding skips many of these issues not just neatly, but, more 'elegantly' in the engineering sense.
