We are bidding the carpentry in a renovation of a old structural brick home. The electircians have already removed all the 12″ 3 pc base from the walls and in doing so loosened/removed all existing blocking. The interior layer of brick is loose and will not handle tapcons or mechanical attahment. The interior finish of the house is plaster. We are looking for a method of prep and attachment for the base that will allow securement.
Looking for insight and ideas.

Over the yrs I've come across that problem with fastening to brick a few times. I have plastic anchored with finish screws, glued the dowel plugs back into the old holes, and even just glued the base back in-using kickers temporaily fastened to the floor if possible and across the room if not.
With PL Premium available now I would use it confidently in any of the glued applications, whether the plugs or the base.

Calvin,
Thanks for the input.

I agree with calvin, glue is the way to go. Make sure the brick is free of any loose dust by sweeping it with a wisk broom or something. Also, apply some of your chosen adhesive onto the brick and use a stick or putty knife to really smear it into the brick, then apply more and press the wood into it.
