Building an attached deck which is u-shaped in plan, i.e. on the two legs of the u joists run parallel to the walls. Looking for advice how to connect the beams to the walls. Using Simpson hangers but wondering about the equivalent of a ledger? Could not find this on YouTube, please help.

Generic advice will not help. Engineering analysis is required.
first you need to understand the loads the beam will carry.
Then a suitable ledger board can be specified.
Some relevant discussion here:

and the options for freestanding designs usually look a lot more straightforward imho.
Thanks for the link and advice, too late for freestanding.
not obvious to the reader (ok, this reader) how it can be too late for freestanding.
You are still considering how/if a ledger board will work. says to me the beam is not installed.
Too late to install additional footings for freestanding, it's all rock.
That could change the cost comparison.
Thanks for the reply.
drawing of what you're planning would help - lots of deck building advice available here from various sources - check out Mike"s site - http://www.mikeguertin.com - he's one of the go-to guys for deck building (writes for fine homebuilding and Jlc, also teaches at Jlc live)
found this that might be helpful

Thanks for all the advice and links, see the red circles in attached dwg. Have since heard from the engineer to use Simpson HUC201-3Z hangers - my question is: do I attach these directly to the sheathing?
The hanger needs to be connected to structure.
your drawing shows where these connectors are located, but not the elevation.
these look to be located near walls, shear walls, beams, and concrete.
best to mount the connector direct to structure.
you may want to ask your engineer for connector specification, and whether sheathing between the hanger and supporting structure is allowed.
in no case should you just screw or nail the hanger to unsupported sheathing.

Many linked details in the above, including mounting to concrete.
You also will want to become familiar with which fasteners to use with the treated wood.
