I wondering what others thoughts are on connecting my steel columns at each end to the LVL’s. It states in install to keep back 4″ on the face. Does this also apply to the bottom edge also? It is 4-24″ x 28′ lvl’s (yes engineer was involved) .

I assume the engineer didn't specify a connection? In any case I'd use a saddle bracket extended up the sides of the beam and through bolted.
He did specify, I'm just question his vague specifcation of an Flatlok type screw with no saddle. My first inclantion was making a custon saddle as I have never seen one that would work in my configuration. The posts are both in interior walls and every saddle if have ever seen works well with posts in the middle the lvl but not the ends.
I'd go with the engineers specs unless you know something he doesn't know. Unless you're ina hurricane or earthquake zone the loads on that beam are going to be vertical in which case all you need is something to keep the beam on the column.
Simpson makes a column cap for end use with wood posts. They also make a column cap CCO for welding to the top of steel posts. You could easily use this cap with the post welded to the end. This would put at least 2 bolts more that 4" from the end of the beam.

That's what I needed. Unfortunately with time cruch I started fab my own, looks very simliar. I think I will just weld it. That's a better idea than the bolting to the top plate..
