What is the best way to attach drywall to a brick patterned poured concrete wall where there isn’t room because of a stairway for furring strips. I am afraid I don’t have faith in drywall adhesive to hold on that textured of a wall and it never seems to stay in place.
Thanks

Use Durabond with a heavy notched trowel.
You will need some way to hold the board in place till it sets up, but you can get some rapid setting times.

*You can use the Durabond behind the drywall and fasten it with tension pins used for installing wall molding for drop ceiling. They are are case harden nails and small enouch to just leave them in, and finish over them. If they don't work, use a few well placed tapcon screws and take them out later. I have also used a trowel on tile mastic as a glue for dw to concrete. To me it works as well or better than construction adhesives because you get a more uniform coverage, instead of a few squiggly lines. You can also nail up some L shaped 2x4s and use other 2x4s to kick them off of an adjacent wall to hold the board in place untill the mastic or durabond has set.Dave
*No faith in the drywall adhesive ? Wow, I don't think I've heard that before. Go with PL Premium or PL 200 in golf ball size blobs (drywall adhesive would work too) combined with some flat head masonry anchors. A great product for this is the Powers brand "Spike". They are a super simple anchor that only requires a hole to be drilled and you just bang them in. They come in a flat head version so you can spackle right over them. You can see them here:http://www.powers.com/aepdf/AEnew.htm
*You can go with the adhesive but why not just skim coat the concrete smooth?
*I just finished a similar basement stairway wall. I plastered the rough concrete with cement plaster and because I am a poor plasterer I skim coated the surface with joint compound so that I could sand it smooth. It's a nice surface and cost about the same as furring and sheetrock.
