1950 house with old batt insulation in attic floor 900 SF house. Attic has a window on each side. When new roofing was installed they opened up the roof with a ridge vent. The old batting has settled and new insulation I feel is needed. Just dont know how to proceed. Ohio winters close to Lake Erie (1000 feet). Thanks for advice from you pros. I will get a contractor to install.

The insulation contractor will be your best source of information.
Good idea to start with calling a local insulation contractor or three for some conversation and quotes.
at that age, it is worth considering removal of existing insulation to let you check for rodents or insects, or things they leave behind, and then a proper job of insulation.
It also is a good time to complement your ridge vent with soffit vents.
But your best bet may be to look for an energy audit from your utility or other local source. they come to the house, evaluate and measure, and provide specific best bang for the buck recommendations. you would have to pay something, but learn a lot.
Thank you. I will take your advice and contact our utility company. I dont know if I should call the gas company or the electric company so I will contact both to see if either does this. I do appreciate your answer......
I’m outside Toledo and Columbia Gas’s has a program like was suggested. For a small fee they will come in and inspect including scanning for temp change in exterior walls and ceilings along with a blower door test.
After that they suggest various remedies to help. There was also some financials they offered in a program.
Call them or go online with your gas supplier.
