Attic with soffit vents only at one of every four rafter bays. How to upgrade insulation?
Hi,
Trying to figure out options for upgrading my insulation in my attic and create the proper ventilation.
I have blown in fiberglass insulation with no vapor barrier. I have aluminum soffit vents but only in every fourth rafter bay and a ridge vent.
I also want to preserve floor space in the attic for storage.
For the rafter bays at the soffit vents, the option looks straight forward: Add baffles from soffit to ridge vent, add faced figerglass batts under the baffles between the rafters.
Not sure what to do at the locations that don’t have soffit vents. Thought I could just put up batts there too but that looks like it would be a moisture control problem.
Any thoughts on what options I should look into would be appreciated.
Thanks

Stand 2x4 or 2x6 (whatever you need for more insulation) on edge at right angles to the current floor joists (or truss bottom chords, whatever). Insulate between the 2x, floor over it.
Thanks for writing back with that option. I did think about thitat.
I should have mentioned that I have a central air handler and duct work in my attic so I have extra motivation to add insulation to the roof line.
