Attn Wetheadwarrior; Storing radiators
Hello, WetHeadWarrior –
I am salvaging about ten cast iron radiators that are getting ripped out of a 1940’s vintage house.
Very nice but old with layers of paint and some are already sitting on the driveway with early stages of rust.
I’m trying to get an idea what folks are doing when these things are stored in a garage.
Should I be concerned with the internal passages being compromised by corrosion ?
Obviously the “dead” water protects them when they are being used but once disconnected and drained (and dried), will corrosion be a problem?
I recall seeing old radiators in shops but don’t think they were filled with water and capped.
They will be stored in a garage that is fairly well insulated.
I am looking forward to restoring them to their former glory.
If I can just dry them out thoroughly and put them away, that would be great.
Thanks for any input,
Alan

That would be the best thing you can do for them. Thanks for asking. If you want more info look at the bookstore at http://www.HeatingHelp.com Dan Holohan sells a book named "E.D.R." (stands for Every Darn Raidiator)
Yes, I already have the book.
(Actually, I have several of Dan's books.)
Haven't had a chance to look these up because I can't find the book !
Storing them "dry" in a garage is what I'll do.
Thanks,
Alan
