I would like to add some roof, awning roof, door cap, or a wider drip edge to protect the entrance door frame.
How to tie (install flashing) these to the bay window corner post or aluminum capped double J-channel?
I am working with a local contractor and he is also researching this.
Thank you!!!

How does this relate to your other question regarding a bay window repair?
the way the pictures show the connection of the bay right smack next to the door unit suggests some pretty decent need for water proofing/flashing there. There's also the different color to the siding above the door area.
please fill in whatever you can about both posts.
thanks.
Calvin....you are a good observer.
Some background information:
There used to be a half-moon window right above the door. It had a wooden trim with some caulk to the vinyl siding. Over the years the caulk and all the wood trim joints of the window and door rotted so the window was removed (covered with newer siding).
Work scheduled for this week:
- Remove the siding above the door frame all the way up to where the bay window starts.
- Remove the bay window siding (left panel only).
- Remove the siding under the bay window.
- Install Tyvek on the exposed sheeting.
- Install self-adhsive wide flexible window flashing to the corner where the bay window meets with the main wall. All the way from the top of the bay window to the bottom of the bottom window area.
- Install two J-channels to the same corner and cap it with AL coil stock. All the way from top to bottom.
- Reinstall siding.
- Replace PVC trim around the door.
The problem:
The main roof provides with only a limited protection from the elements of the door frame so I am thinking about installing some thin metal structure, awning, sticking out no more than about 2 feet. I have some contractor specializing on awnings coming.
I am not sure if anything else can be done here other than a small awning not to create some ugly look of the house.
Because the door frame and bay window is butted to each another, bad design, I can't see how one can install an awning all the way to this corner. It seems impossible.

if you could and have those pics on your computer, post them here.
i would go a bit further and flash the bay roof properly. The downside of vinyl siding is its ability to collect water at sidewall/roof intersections. If it wasn't done b/4, I'd check and then detail it now. Any water traveling down that roof or in the j channel needs to be kicked out b/4 it gets behind the siding.
same deal with the butted j so it doesn't end up as a collector of water directed behind the siding.
as to the awning, no idea here. You are right, a bastard design it is. 10 pounds of stuff in an 8 pound bag.
Best of luck with this.
