I recently replaced my old cast iron plumbing with abs. I had to dig a trench under the footing. What would be the best material to backfill with? The soil around here is clay.

Wrap the pipe with soft foam, build a form around the pipe out beyond the old foundation, then pour loose concrete in until it's above the foundation. You need the concrete wet enough to flow under the old foundation.
Thanks for the reply i forgot to mention our footing is above the frost line. Not sure if that makes a difference in regards to heaving
