I’m hoping to get started on replacing the temporary siding (old used fiberglass roofing panels) on the garage I’ve been building for the last 2 years.
Plan is to nail up vertical shiplap pine over tarpaper.
I have a 5 gallon pail of oops Behr solid color latex stain, and an old 5 gallon pail of Olympic oil based semi-transparent stain.
Are either of these suitable for backpriming the boards, or is there a real benefit to going with a fancy primer like Zinsser (sp?) or Kilz?
Also, what would people recommend for a light-colored stain/sealer for the exterior? I’d like to keep it faily light and natural-looking, but don’t want to have it grey on me or have to reapply something every year. I’m thinking a semi-solid might be the best compromise – what brands do people like?
Thanx
Don
