Yes and no. I work in banking, and if we would just come right out and say it, we are trying to save $. But...., it is a waste of a lot of paper for a bank to mail out a 1099 for every tax payer that does not itemize. Plus, the envelope that your 1099 would have to be mailed to you in, goes right into the landfill.

You wouldn't have to print it out of you file online.
You don't need to print it out no matter how filing. Now he did not indicate what kind of 1099 this was.But the only time that one gets attached to the return is when it shows that income taxes have been withheld. And you can optional have that done on retirement payments (1099). Rarely you might have withholding on payments IF you have been not been paying your taxes and the IRS can request a payer to withhold taxes. That would be on a 1099-INT or 1099-Misc.But a bigger issue is how do you personal file your records.3 years from now can you get together you tax return stored on your computer and requires special software to see or on someone's server, paper copies of W-2, bank statements, and receipts, and some copies of emails that among the list of nigerian scams, ads for body enhancesments, and joks of the day..
