Ok guys, so I know that this is probably nothing new to all of you, but recently I have been putting in quite a bit of hardwood flooring. But it seems that on almost every job I end up with about a box or so left over (I install for a store, so I don’t do the measurements) anyway, I now have about 10 different colors sitting around so I thought of what to do with them!
Make counter tops! So I made a small oak bar a few weeks back and I used some 5/16 stapledown oak for the top and it turned out great, then a guy saw it and liked it so I just built the guy a bar out of 3/4 inch natural oak finish.
I put 3 1/4 inch planks on the top and 2 1/4 on the sides. I don’t have it in the picture but the back is has cabinets and shelving.

ok the pictures weren't showing up that well so let's try these:
Nice look, doing the same with cherry from hardwood floors. Built a work bench, bar ht. of 42",while I finish basement, I'm 6'6" will be covering the frame in the same fashion. Now I know what the finish product will look like.
I made one out of 5/16 oak that was cherry stained and it looked nice-- that staple down stuff only took me about an hour and a half.....
this stuff was 3/4 so I had to fight it a bit more, but an 18 gauge brad nailer held at an angle does a great job on the last few boards
good luck!
When in doubt, get a bigger hammer!
