here’s the fireplace looking right at ya …
don;t forget the bulkheads and arches …
right acorss from the FP …. under the opposing arch …
is going to be a rework of the original idea… a bookcase.
After the FP was installed … me and the owner started looking and thinking …
I came up with the idea of framing a bookcase … books on one side and knee space for standing on the “pool table side” … to the exact dimentions as the fireplace. Match the 2″ stiles and rails … add a top 1 1/2 band … set back the toe kick …
So the bookcases is framed out of wood exactly as the FP is made out of metal …
The HO took that idea one step farther … said Yes , then we’d have the painted paint it that semi-flat black … to match exactly!
Both will get the same marble top, skirt and mini hearth … 6″ wide pieces set in the floor …
Should look really cool.
All the drywall is getting bullnose’d.
This place is gonna be sharp.

gonna need a pic here or sumthin.
having fun with the new camera I see..
I've never heard of bullnosing drywall - what is that?
It's a southwest thing- every house I built in Las Vegas had bullnosed corners. The corner beads are radiused about 1" instead of square. Don't think I've ever seen it in Pittsburgh though....

It's pretty amazing how much it "softens up" a place too. The Trim-Tex 350 bull is pretty popular around here. http://www.trim-tex.comKevin Halliburton

very rare ... have seen it local a few times...
around here ... it's a way upscale treatment.
The completed upstairs is mostly bullnose...
looks great on the gentle arches ....
really sets the "feel" of the house.

Hey Jeff - pictures?
Are you guys using the Trim-tex 3/4" or 1 1/2" bullnose? I did an entryway arch with the 3/4" in my last house and I'm forever sold on Trim-Tex. But...
I think I will go with the more subtle 350 bull in our present house. With a .35" radius it looks more like a subtly eased edge than it's big brothers, which fits a little better with the look we are shooting for. Best of all, it promises to be a little easier on the install.
I learned a thing or two finishing my first ever elliptical arch with a rigid 3/4" bullnose cornerbead. The local supplier didn't stock the flexible bullnose at the time so I did a lot of snipping on the rigid to make it work. I think I did more sanding than the Karate Kid before it was all over with but eventually it looked real nice. :-)>Kevin Halliburton

Don't know what they'll use.
I got smart on this one and am hiring it out ... showed them what they have to match from the upstairs ... They said .. Hey, we just used that very same stuff!
To my untrained eye ... I think it's the 350.
I'll be drywall ready in a coupla short days ...
they won't start till after the holiday ... hopefully have pics shortly thereafter.
