First off, I hope everyone has a happy and healthy holiday. I’m putting a room in an old unfinished basement. It needs to be as soundproof as it can be from the floor above. There are slao a lot of pipes and wiring hanging below the joists. If i insulate the bays the best i can, would a drop ceiling be adequate? I’m not sure if the air gap is better or not? Also would a PLS2 be adequate to lay out for the grids? Looking for an excuse to buy one anyways. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks again, bri.

Bri, similar job ongoing right now, and there is actually a hell of a lot of science in basement finishing. Knight/Celotex has a product called Soundstop. It comes in 4x8 sheets of various thickness. It is great for dampening sound transfer through ductwork and fastened to ceiling, with an appropriate fire-barrier, it creates an incredible cocoon. Do I smell a home theater or a jam studio?.
