Nice.
What did that door cost you? $5k?

I'm curious...did you worry at all about that new OSB sheathing being in close contact with the existing brick and mortar (ie: moisture creep)?
Justin Fink - FHB Editorial
The door was 2800. @ home depot. the alum rap on the osb will protect and all seams caulked with matching colored caulk. I believe this will hold up very well.
oh, didn't see the alum. wrap in the photos...I'll have to take a closer look.Justin Fink - FHB Editorial
I will post some pics of the inside of the finished basement as soon as time permits, thanks
That looks really sharp. Are your columns and entablature Fypon elements?
Jon Blakemore RappahannockINC.com Fredericksburg, VA
Jon , I custom made the columns in my shop, primed and painted with a custom color to match the doors. The columns were made from 5/4 popluar. The keystone was also made of the same.
Nice looking work, but I have to question the use of poplar as an exterior wood. I've replaced a lot of poplar the last 10 years or so that other contractors put in. One job, some porch posts, didn't even last 5 years, and it was well primed and painted. I turned new ones out of mahogany.
I've been using a lot of Miratech and Azek for trim details similar to yours, and like both.
Just my two cents.
You are correct, if the homeowner would maintain paint and caulk we would not have home improvement co, only home builders. I myself just recently started using azek on some garage door openings and the like. thanks for the compliments.
ssshhhhhh.
If homeowners did proper maintenance, I'd lose a good part of my work.
I dont think youll have to worry about that.
Jon I checked out your web site, you do some fine work youself. very nice.
Just curious.... why did you install the door differently then Andersen instructions?
The opening was a garage door for the contractor when the house was being built. then the owner had someone close it up and brick it in. we simply used the same opening and sized for the door.
I was actually more interested why no flanges or factory drip cap, the shims on the top and a RO that appears tight. That is a big brick wall with a window above, lots of chance for water penetration yet you chose not to use Andersens solutions. I'm not picking on you but run into this frequently toubleshooting installs. Just interested in why you decided in a non-recommended install?
As noted all pcs were wraped with alum, the header is also covered with 5/4 popluar. the alum on osb runs under door frame to brick. the drip cap also custom, with flashing behind.
more pics inside basement. pine wet bar.
My full time job limits me to smaller projects most of the time. 10hrs a day as a parts manager for a heavy truck dealer. (international) so most of the time i work in my shop at home.
count me interested, but just so you know - you can have twice as many of us actually SEE those pictures if you will keep them under 150-200KBs each. It took me about five minutes for one to come to me on dial-up, so I'd need a pretty boring life to wait half an hour for all of them.
