I am installing perimeter drains and a sump pit on one wall of my basement and wanted to create a straight edge (before breaking up the floor) for the new concrete. Given that most basement floors are about 4″ deep, I was wondering how deep of a groove I would need to create before I bring in the jack hammer. Would a half inch suffice? Thanks

if your using a gas cut off lots of ventilation and lots of water to keep dust down. no guarantees on perfect break. remember theres a footing down there
I did a job last year (bathroom in basement) 1/2" worked for me
Had a hard time with the jackhammer (bosch brute) until I gave the floor a couple of wacks with a 8 lb sluggo before I tried to jack it...much easier.
