strategy question: I have a built up kitchen floor in my basement. 2x4s laying on their sides, 3/4 in plywood, laminated tile. I’m redoing the whole thing: floors, ceiling, walls, electric, plumbing. But starting with the floors, I would like to lay 6 mil plastic or #15 roofing felt between floor studs, then insulate and relay subfloor. That’s the only way I can think of to keep floor from getting cold in the Chicago winter. I realize I could lay carpet or put down heating coils under new tile but I want to build it up right. Am I making too big of a deal out of this. Currently there’s nothing on cement floor between the floor studs but I would have to rip up subfloor to fix it. Also once and for all I have to be able to tell, whether it’s today or in the future, if tile has asbestoes. I need a practical way, maybe send it to a local lab or something, to know for sure if it has asbestoes. All I’ve ever heard is guess work or cover it up and the web site only gives practical tips. Are there commercial, retail labs or how can a general remodeler go into a house and say for sure yes or no this has asbestoes? Makes me crazy. Thanks.
