I’m replacing a few windows in my basement and have a couple of questions regarding the installaton. The wood framing was set into the concrete and has rotted. I’ll need to dig out the old wood and install new. how do I go about fastening the new wood to the concrete? Also should I use pressure treated lumber for frame? And last, I’ll need to patch around the new window on the exterior but Am not sure what to use as far as mortar, concrete etc..
Thanks for any input.

Make the frame out of PT wood.
Use Tapcon screws to fasten the frame to the masonry.
Are you reusing the sashes?
Patch the masonry with premixed cement mix. Use a bonding agent to help it stick.
Shep,
Do I need to predrill the concrete to use these"Tapcon" srews? Also what size do you recommend? Would the premixed cement be like quikrete or something like that? Also I'm embarassed to say I'm not sure what the "sash" is, that you asked me if I would be re-using. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Tapcon screws have a drill bit that is specifically sized for them. Just driil the hole and run them in. An impact driver works best, but any cordless will work. The size depends on how thick your jambs will be, but I would think that a 2-1/4 or 2-3/4 screw should work. HD carries the screws and the drill bits.
Yes, the premixed is quikcrete or something similar. just don't get the gravel mix, or you'll have to pick out the stones ( don't laugh, I've done it)
The sash is the wood frame that holds the glass. If you can reuse the old sashes, Just make the new frames so the sashes fit, and set them into place.
I'm going under the assumption that you have basement windows that open, or that they did at one time.
if you have any more questions, let me know.
