Rim joists – From what i understand rim joists are laid flush against the outer edge of a wall plate so that the edge of the floor joists sit on the inner edge of the plate.
So as an example; a room in an attic/bonus room. would this be the only portion of the attic that would have rim joists? and the rest of the attic would be ceiling joists without a rim joist?
Also, are the joists terminated at the closest perpendicular wall? (which i assumed wouldn’t because a joist layout would look like a bunch of boxes identical to the floor plan) or do you extend a beam along the longest span needed(like the longest room on that portion of the building), run it the length to the wall and then terminate all other joists to that beam?
