Bat Mitzvah Gift

doodabug | Posted in Photo Gallery on March 29, 2009 03:09am

I was going to give this girl a $25 gift card. She said oh no you have to make me some bookshelves and be creative.

Be creative, what to do. I was driving to work and saw this porch and thought it would be a good design for shelves

If she doesn't want it, I vote you raffle it off!  How much are tickets?! jt8

Well, you could make ANOTHER one.  We could hold a raffle.  $5 or $10 per ticket. jt8

I went down to the lobby

To make a small call out.

A pretty dancing girl was there,

            And she began to shout,

"Go on back to see the gypsy.

He can move you from the rear,

            Drive you from your fear,

            Bring you through the mirror.

He did it in Las Vegas,

And he can do it here."

LOL! They always do. I think they learn that stuff in girl school before they're in KindyGardgen.

        Very nice shelves!

        1. doodabug | Mar 29, 2009 06:50pm | #18

Thanks  She goes to a private school and her sister goes to regular high school.

I think she is a little more rowdy than older sister.

I'm not sure if the posters realize all the benefits of her choice.

She doesn't come away with just a nice one of a kind, hand made, piece of furniture.

She strengthened her relationship with you by giving you the green light on something you are good at and enjoy.

That is what I mean when I said she was smart. In a way she didn't out smart you. She backed you up by saying she trusts your good judgement.

Many people just want stuff. There is no relationship behind or heart in it.

This piece will probably stay in the family for generations and the story behind it.

There are artisans, crafts people, and woodworkers all over the place but people don't back them up so they are squandered.

They would rather have the latest thing sold to them by advertisers and made somewhere else. And the oldest acquisition goes off somewhere in a refuse pile.

        Smart girl!

          Very nice post !!!

        2. doodabug | Mar 29, 2009 07:05pm | #21

All that stuff you said is spot on and she is more clever than I. 13 and knows what she wants. I didn't know till my mid twenties.

  4. FastEddie | Mar 29, 2009 04:36pm | #14

That's really neat.  Looks like you can see a bit of shiny finish near the bottom, so I assume it is a clear finish on the pine.  I would have used a non-white back panel.

"When asked if you can do something, tell'em "Why certainly I can", then get busy and find a way to do it."  T. Roosevelt

Nice job, now just be cautious, in a couple years she may want a house built behind that porch!

      1. doodabug | Mar 29, 2009 06:57pm | #20

I really hope to be retired by the time she is ready for a house. I can dream.

        Thanks

    2. doodabug | Mar 29, 2009 06:54pm | #19

Thanks  Clear wax finish.  I wasn't crazy about the white panel either but it is what I had and maybe when she fills them up it won't be so obvious.
