yes, but they're easier to vent out the roof with a roof jack... unless
you've got metal roofing..
even with metal roofing ,shouldn't be that big a deal
either way is code.. just keep it away from windows...
*Hey Mike, what's a "roof jack"? I have the same situation in a remodel, and decided I wanted to go through the roof, but have been wondering what type cap to use. Can't just let it point to the sky like a plumbing vent. Thanks, Bear
*A Roof Jack is basically a backdraft damper with a cover, flashing and a duct connection collar. Typically about 14" X 16". Plumbing vents are "drained". Other types, like bathroom exhausts and dryer vents are not and need to be protected from rain and snow entering.
*Johnnie, Both the CABO 1995 One and Two Family Dwelling Code, and the IRC 2000 Code code say "Bathroom exhausts s hallbe vented directly to the outside." Mike liles through the roof, I ptrefer not to add another hole in the roof.Keep away from venting through soffits. In new construction mount fan on wet wall and run duct work down beteween between floor joists and through joist header. Cap it off with a jack.GeneL.
