I’m undecided on how to finish the bathroom floor at our cabin in north Pennsylvania. The room is small (7’x9′), now has a 3/4″ plywood subfloor with 6″ of fiberglass insulation above the crawl space. The building is not heated throughout most of the winter when temperatures get well below freezing. I’d like to install vinyl or linoleum tile but with the temperature change should I be concerned about expansion and shrinkage and reaction with the adhesive? What about installing sheet vinyl laid loose with no adhesive and with allowance for expansion under the base trim? I’m open for any suggestions.

Traditional lime wash still has tons of useful applications.

I think sheet vinyl would be fine but I'd glue the entire surface. I've seen unglued vinyl and it starts to buckle especially at the edges. I don't have much experiance with vinyl on a long term basis so I cant say for sure. One question though. The bathrooms not all that big so why not thinset some tile over some CBU? Isnt all that expensive or complicated in a small bathroom.

Thanks Andy,
I'll consider that suggestion!

Tony, go with Andy's suggestion. You will spend no more than $200 tops for CBU, thinset, tile and grout. Select a bargin tile and just do it. It's the only way for the bath area. Do it right and sleep. Good luck with your project.
Thanks for your input. This sounds like the way to go
