Greetings,
My better half and I are getting ready to build a home in Eastern Washington state, and one of her requirements is to insulate the bathroom walls to eliminate the noise created by waste water moving down through the drains in the walls.
I am OK with insulating the bathroom walls but am unsure of the best type insulation to use (fiberglass, rock wool, foam board, or spray applied foam) and whether a vapor barrier should be installed to control moisture moving through them. All of the bathrooms will have a timed exhaust fan installed to remove the bulk of the moisture present in the air.
What are your thoughts about a best way to proceed?
Sincerely,

the best way to "insulate" the bathrooms from waste sounds is to use all cast iron waste pipes. Virtually no sounds from running water. For insulation, Rock wool (formally) ROXUL, is the best insulation for the walls to mitigate sounds.
